At last the time had come for my boyfriend Dave to fly out from the UK to meet me in Brisbane (Queensland, Australia). After 4 months apart, to say we were excited to see each other is an understatement. But before his arrival I spent 2 nights with an old friend whom I used to work with in England. It was great to catch up with this lass.
Dave and I based ourselves at a fantastic ‘airbnb’ in Paddington. Cafes, bars, vintage clothing shops and old Queenslander houses are abundant in this leafy suburb perched atop steep ridges and hills, which is located just 2km from Brisbane’s CBD.
We occupied our time by savouring some of the local gastronomic delights, climbing and joining yoga sessions at the brilliant nearby climbing wall (Urban Climb – Milton), wandering the city streets, meeting up with a lovely distant relative of mine, and most importantly enjoying each others company after such a lengthy time apart.
Brisbane – being sub-tropical – even in the winter months (now) doesn’t get cold. Compared to England anyway. It is normally in the low/mid 20’s during the day. Brissy or BrisVegas (as the locals sometimes call it) is quite familiar to me after visiting several times in the past, but it was Dave’s first encounter with the laid-back state capital of Queensland. His opinion of it goes something like this “good food and a nice city to walk around”. That’s a thumbs up from both of us!
A journey to the unknown was about to commence next…
